Star Academy Competition Team Auditions - Ages 9-17 (Junior, Teen, & Senior Team!)

Competition Team Information: 

Our competition team has beginner to intermediate/advanced dancers. This group will be dancers ages 9 to 17 years old. They will have at least one jazz group to compete & perform, as well as the opportunity to be in other routines. They will compete at 2 local competitions in March-May, as well as have 2 other community performances throughout the year. We will have an optional competition/convention as well. 

Summer Requirements: 

Competition team members are required to take either one technique/ballet class per week over the Summer at Star Academy, our Dance Technique Intensive, or three 1/2-hour private lessons with Mrs. Caitlyn. 

Fall/Spring Requirements: 

We will have one 45-minute team practice per week, as well as a 1-2 hour practice about one weekend per month. They must take a minimum of one ballet class per week to be on the team. More advanced levels will be required to take two ballet classes per week. All team members will also have to take a class in the same style of each additional dance they are in (for example - if they are in a lyrical routine, they must take lyrical). 

Acro, Tap, & Hip-Hop Team Requirements Only:

These specialty teams will go to the same competitions. Team members will be required to take a class in the style of their team and will have occasional weekend practices - but that is the only requirement for these teams. This team is only for those who excel in these styles (see below for examples of what we are looking for on each team). 

Acro - must have walkovers & balancing tricks (elbow/chest/head/handstands, larger tricks such as aerials, front/backhandsprings are a plus)

Tap - 2+ years of experience

Hip-Hop - 2+ years of experience

What to Expect at Auditions: 

Dancers should arrive warmed up as we will immediately go into across the floor exercises (kicks, turns, leaps, etc), and then learn a jazz & lyrical/contemporary combo. At the end, we will ask for dancers to improv, as well as show off any acro tricks. 

What to Wear/Bring to Auditions: 

All black dance attire (leotard, tank top, leggings, shorts, etc are all perfect)

Hair in a pulled back ponytail or bun

Jazz shoes (if you have them)

*If attending Specialty Team Auditions - please bring tap/hip-hop shoes as well

Competition Team Expectations: 

Our team will be held to a high standard. They are representatives of Star Academy and expected to follow class uniform requirements, and set examples in every class with their respect and work ethic. Failure to do so may result in removal from the company.
