Star Academy Competition Team Auditions

Competition Schedule: 

3:15-4:00 - Mini & Petite Team Auditions (Ages 4-9)

4:00-5:00 - Junior Team Auditions (Ages 9-12)

5:00-5:30 - Acro Team Auditions (Ages 7+)

5:30-6:00 - Hip-Hop Team Auditions (Ages 7+)

6:00-6:30 - Tap Team Auditions (Ages 7+)

6:30-7:30 - Teen & Senior Team Auditions (Ages 12+)

Competition Team Information: 

Our competition team will have beginner to intermediate/advanced dancers. Our entire team will consist of dancers ages 4-18. Everyone will be required to participate in our production routine this season, regardless of which team they are on. Many will also be offered additional group routines, solos, duets, and/or trios. 

All team members will compete at 2 local competitions in March-May, as well as at the annual Showcase & Recital. We will have other opportunities for conventions, competitions, and community performances as well. 

Summer Requirements: 

Mini & Petite Team - either 1 dance technique intensive at our studio, 1 weekly ballet class & 1 dance elective (tap, acro, jazz, etc.; must attend at least 6 weeks) at our studio, or 1.5 hours of private lessons with an approved instructor.

Specialty Team (tap & hip-hop only) - either 1 dance technique intensive at our studio, 1 weekly dance class in their specialty (tap or hip-hop; must attend at least 6 weeks) at our studio, or 1 hour of private lessons with an approved instructor.

All Other Junior/Teen/Senior Team Members - either 1 dance technique intensive at our studio, 1 weekly ballet class & 1 dance elective (tap, acro, jazz, etc.; must attend at least 6 weeks) at our studio, or 2 hours of private lessons with an approved instructor.

Fall/Spring Requirements: 

We will have one 30-90 minute team practice per week, as well as a 1-2 hour practice about one weekend per month. Unless they are only on the Tap or Hip-Hop Specialty Team, they must take a minimum of one ballet class per week to be on the team. More advanced levels will be required to take two ballet classes per week. All team members will also have to take a class in the same style of each additional dance they are in (for example - if they are in a lyrical routine, they must take lyrical). 

What to Expect at Auditions: 

Dancers should arrive warmed up as we will immediately go into across the floor exercises (kicks, turns, leaps, etc), and then learn a jazz & lyrical/contemporary combo. At the end, we will ask for dancers to improv, as well as show off any acro tricks. 

For the acro, hip-hop, and tap auditions - they should be prepared to learn a quick combination as well as improv/show off any tricks.

What to Wear/Bring to Auditions: 

All black dance attire (leotard, tank top, leggings, shorts, etc are all perfect)

Hair in a pulled back ponytail or bun

Jazz shoes (if you have them)

*If attending Specialty Team Auditions - please bring tap/hip-hop shoes as well

Competition Team Expectations: 

Our team will be held to a high standard. They are representatives of Star Academy and expected to follow class uniform requirements, and set examples in every class with their respect and work ethic. Failure to do so may result in removal from the company.
